Individual therapy is a regular, private conversation with one psychologist who comes to know your history and works with you over time. At Rooh Mind Care it is the service most people begin with, whether they are in Lucknow and would rather sit in a room, or somewhere else in India and joining by video.
Sessions run 50 minutes. Most people start weekly, then space sessions out as things settle. Nobody is asked to commit to a fixed number of sessions in advance — how long therapy runs is decided with your psychologist, based on what you are working on.
What people bring to individual therapy
- Anxiety and overthinking — constant worry, racing thoughts, panic attacks, health anxiety, social anxiety, difficulty sleeping.
- Low mood and depression — loss of interest, exhaustion that rest does not fix, hopelessness, withdrawal from people.
- OCD — intrusive thoughts, checking, washing, reassurance-seeking, mental rituals.
- Trauma and difficult past experiences — including childhood experiences that still shape how you relate to people now.
- Burnout and work stress — including the particular strain of managing a career alongside family expectations.
- Self-esteem, body image and shame — feeling not good enough, harsh self-criticism, comparison.
- Relationships — trust, boundaries, repeating patterns in dating, marriage or family.
- Life transitions — moving city or country, career change, becoming a parent, loss.
How the first session works
The first session is mostly about getting a clear picture. Your psychologist will ask what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what you would like to be different. You will not be asked to relive anything you are not ready to talk about.
By the end of it you should have a sense of what the work would involve and roughly how often you would meet. If it turns out a different clinician on the team is a better fit — a psychiatrist, or someone who works specifically with couples or adolescents — we will say so and help you move across.

Rooh Mind Care is queer-affirmative, neurodivergent-affirmative and culturally sensitive. That is not a line on a website: it means your therapist will not treat your identity, your family structure or your cultural context as the problem to be solved.

Common questions
Do I need a referral or diagnosis to start therapy?
No. You can book directly. Many people come in without a diagnosis and simply describe what has been difficult. If a psychiatric opinion would help, your psychologist will raise it with you.
Is online therapy as effective as meeting in person?
For most common concerns — anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties — the research finds online therapy works about as well as in-person therapy. Sessions run on a secure Google Meet link. In-person sessions are available in Lucknow.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends entirely on what you are working on. Some people come for six to eight sessions with a focused goal; others stay longer for deeper work. You are never locked into a fixed course — the duration is reviewed with your psychologist as you go.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. Sessions are confidential. The limited exceptions — a serious risk to your life or someone else's, or a legal requirement — are explained in the client agreement you acknowledge before your first booking.
Can I choose my therapist?
Yes. You can read every clinician's profile on the team page and book with the person you prefer. If the fit is not right after a session or two, tell us and we will help you move to someone else on the team.
