De-addiction treatment
Drinking, smoking or using a substance can slide from habit into something that is hard to control, and asking for help is often the hardest step. Dr Varsha spent three years in a de-addiction ward and treats addiction as a medical condition: without judgement, in confidence, and at a pace that works for you.
Experience: three years in the de-addiction ward during her MD at K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte, and de-addiction camps at Ujire, K.S. Hegde and A.V. Baliga Hospital.
Book a confidential consultationWhat she helps with
- Alcohol: cutting down, stopping and staying stopped
- Tobacco, nicotine and cannabis
- Dependence on sleeping pills or painkillers
- Planning a safe withdrawal, and medicines to ease cravings where suitable
- Depression, anxiety or poor sleep that come with substance use
- Relapse prevention, and guidance for worried families
Online, safely. Video consultations work well for assessment, planning, medicines and follow-up. If withdrawal could be severe, for example after heavy daily drinking, or a medicine is needed that cannot be prescribed online, she will tell you plainly and help you arrange in-person care.
Child & adolescent psychiatry
Children are not small adults: their worries show up as tummy aches, tantrums, school refusal or a sudden drop in marks. Dr Varsha assesses the whole child, with you in the room, and explains clearly what is happening and what will help.
- Attention, hyperactivity and learning difficulties (ADHD)
- Autism, development and early intervention
- Anxiety, low mood, OCD and exam stress
- Behaviour, sleep, screen use and school refusal
- Teenagers: mood, self-harm, substance use, identity
- Guidance for parents on what to do at home
Trained in child psychiatry at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and for a year under a consultant child psychiatrist at K.S. Hegde; trained in the Early Start Denver Model for young autistic children, IQ assessment and projective tests. Evening hours fit around school.
Geriatric psychiatry
In later life, low mood can look like tiredness, and memory trouble can be depression, a medicine, or the start of dementia. Dr Varsha takes the time to tell these apart, and looks at the whole picture: physical health, every medicine already taken, and the family around the person.
- Depression and anxiety in later life
- Memory worries, confusion and dementia care
- Sleep problems and night-time restlessness
- Behaviour changes, suspiciousness, agitation
- Reviewing psychiatric medicines beside all the others
- Support and guidance for carers
Trained in geriatric psychiatry during her MD at K.S. Hegde and the Geriatric National Mid-Term CME; experienced in consultation-liaison psychiatry, where mental and physical illness meet. A son, daughter or carer is welcome to join.

About Dr Varsha
Dr Varsha S is a psychiatrist, a medical doctor who specialises in mental health. She holds an MBBS from Srinivas Medical College and Research Centre (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences) and an MD in Psychiatry from K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, where she trained from 2023 to 2026.
Her residency covered the full breadth of psychiatry: outpatients and inpatient wards, psychiatric emergencies, consultation-liaison psychiatry for people admitted with physical illness, and three years in the de-addiction ward. She trained in child psychiatry at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and then spent a year in child and adolescent psychiatry under a consultant child psychiatrist. She also has dedicated experience in geriatric psychiatry, and has worked in community and rural settings, at a district hospital, the Nitte Rural Psychiatry Centre and a community health centre in Kasaragod district.
That range is why families come to her: she is as comfortable with a seven-year-old who will not go to school as with a grandparent whose memory is slipping, and she speaks five languages, including Tulu and Malayalam.

How she works
A first consultation with Dr Varsha is a full psychiatric evaluation: your history (or your child's or parent's), a mental state examination, any medical conditions and current medicines, and a careful assessment of risk. She then explains what she thinks is going on in plain language, and what the options are.
- Medication only when it helps. If she recommends medicine she explains why, what to expect and the side effects, and monitors them at follow-up. For children and older adults she starts low and goes slow.
- Therapy skills as well as prescriptions. She practises CBT, ERP and DBT, and uses them within consultations.
- Families included. Parents, children and carers are part of the plan, with your consent, and leave knowing what to do at home.
- One plan with your therapist. If you also see a psychologist at Rooh Mind Care, she coordinates with them, with your consent.
- Safety first. Trained in risk assessment and emergency psychiatry, she will tell you directly if you need to be seen in person or urgently.

Fees & booking
Three ways to see Dr Varsha: a psychiatric consultation, a therapy session, or a therapy package.
- A full psychiatric evaluation
- Children, adults and older adults
- Medication only when it helps
- One plan with your therapist, if you have one
- 4 sessions: ₹5,760 (₹1,440 each)
- 8 sessions: ₹10,880 (₹1,360 each)
- 16 sessions: ₹20,480 (₹1,280 each)
- Packages: pay once, book as you go
A consultation is a medical appointment, for diagnosis and medication. Therapy is talking treatment over regular sessions. Dr Varsha offers both, and can bring them together in one plan. Therapy with her is the same fee as with our psychologists, and her packages bring the fee per session down. Book any of the three from her card on the homepage.
Pay now or pay later. Book a single session with just ₹2₹100. It counts towards your fee, and you pay the rest before your session.
Consultations and therapy are by secure video, from anywhere in India. Outside India she offers a psychiatric diagnosis or a review of your current medication only, with no prescriptions, for ₹700; therapy abroad is ₹1,600 a session. Her live availability and the booking button are on her card on the homepage: see Dr Varsha's next available times. For what an online consultation covers and what can be prescribed remotely, see online psychiatric consultation.
What an online consultation can’t cover
Online consultations follow India’s Telemedicine Practice Guidelines, 2020. Under them:
- Medicines that cannot be prescribed online. Drugs in Schedule X of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, and narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances listed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. If one is clinically needed, you will be asked to see a psychiatrist in person.
- Medicines that need an in-person visit first. “Add-on” medicines (List B of the Guidelines) are only for someone the psychiatrist has already seen in person for the same condition.
- Situations that need in-person or emergency care instead: thoughts of harming yourself or others; severe agitation, confusion or a loss of touch with reality that may need hospital care; anything that needs a physical examination or tests first; and anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian present.
- The psychiatrist decides in each consultation whether online care is appropriate, and may recommend an in-person visit.
In a crisis, call 112 or Tele-MANAS 14416 (free, 24×7).
Talk with Dr Varsha
Ask her a question first: whether a consultation is right for your child or your parent, what to expect, or how she works with your therapist. Messages are private between the two of you.
- Create your free Rooh Mind Care account. It takes a minute, with a code sent to your email.
- Write to Dr Varsha in My Account, in any of her five languages.
- She replies in the same chat, and we email you when she does.
For questions, not emergencies. Replies come during working hours. If you feel unsafe, call 112 or Tele-MANAS on 14416.
Common questions
Is Dr Varsha S a psychiatrist or a psychologist?
A psychiatrist. She is a medical doctor (MBBS) with a postgraduate MD in Psychiatry, registered with the Karnataka Medical Council (No. 139104). Unlike a psychologist, a psychiatrist can make a medical diagnosis and prescribe medication.
Does Dr Varsha see children and teenagers?
Yes. Child and adolescent psychiatry is one of her two special interests: she trained in it at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and for a year under a consultant child psychiatrist. Anyone under 18 is seen with a parent or guardian present, as Indian telemedicine rules require. Her evening hours, 5 to 9 pm, fit around school.
Does Dr Varsha see older adults?
Yes. Geriatric psychiatry is her other special interest: late-life depression and anxiety, memory worries, sleep, confusion and behaviour changes, and reviewing psychiatric medicines alongside the medicines an older person already takes. A family member is welcome to join the consultation.
Does Dr Varsha treat alcohol and drug addiction?
Yes. De-addiction is a special focus: she spent three years in a de-addiction ward and worked at de-addiction camps. She helps people cut down or stop alcohol, tobacco and other substances, plans a safe withdrawal, prescribes medicines for cravings where suitable and allowed online, and treats the depression, anxiety or sleep problems that often come with it. If withdrawal could be severe, or a medicine is needed that cannot be prescribed online, she will say so plainly and help arrange in-person care. Consultations are confidential, and a family member is welcome to join.
When is Dr Varsha available?
Every day, in the evening from 5 pm to 9 pm India time, by secure video.
How much is a consultation with Dr Varsha?
₹700 for a 30-minute psychiatric consultation in India, and ₹1,600 for a 50-minute therapy session, with packages of 4, 8 or 16 therapy sessions at a lower fee per session. Outside India a consultation is ₹700, for a diagnosis or a review of the medication you already take, with no prescriptions; therapy is ₹1,600 a session.
Can Dr Varsha prescribe medication in an online consultation?
Yes, where India's Telemedicine Practice Guidelines allow it. Most antidepressants and many other long-term psychiatric medicines can be started after a video consultation. Medicines in Schedule X of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, and narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances under the NDPS Act, 1985, cannot be prescribed online and need an in-person appointment.
Which languages does Dr Varsha consult in?
English, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and Tulu.
How can I verify Dr Varsha's medical registration?
Her registration number with the Karnataka Medical Council is 139104. You can search for it on the National Medical Commission's Indian Medical Register.
